Is this screen recorder really free?
Yes, completely free with no sign-up, watermarks, or usage limits.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Recording works entirely in your browser using the getDisplayMedia and MediaRecorder APIs — nothing to install.
Why does the browser show a sharing picker?
Your browser requires you to explicitly choose a screen, window, or tab before any website can capture it. This is a browser security feature, not something this tool controls.
Can you see what is on my screen?
No. When you pick a screen, window, or tab to share, the browser hands those frames to this page, which keeps them in your computer’s memory and encodes them there. Nothing is transmitted — the recording only leaves your device if you click Download or Send To. The sharing indicator you see belongs to your browser, not to us.
What format is my recording saved in?
Most browsers record in WebM. You can convert it to MP4 for wider compatibility before downloading.
Why can't I capture system audio?
System/tab audio capture depends on your browser. Chrome supports it when you share a browser tab (tick "Share tab audio" in the picker). Firefox and Safari largely don't support it yet, so you may only be able to record microphone audio there.
Your Privacy
Your recording is captured and processed entirely in your browser. It's never uploaded to a server — it only leaves your device if you download it or send it to another tool.
