Video Compressor reduces your video's file size directly in your browser using the H.264 codec. Pick a quality preset, cap the resolution if you like, and choose an encoding speed — the tool handles the rest, and shows you exactly how much space you saved.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. Video Compressor runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly — your file never leaves your device.
What video formats are supported?
You can compress MP4, WebM, and MOV files up to 500MB. The output is always saved as MP4.
What's the difference between the quality presets?
High keeps the most visual detail with a larger file. Small produces the most compact file with more visible compression. Balanced is a good middle ground for most videos.
How small can I make my video without it looking bad?
Quality is controlled by the CRF (Constant Rate Factor) value — lower numbers mean higher quality and larger files, higher numbers mean smaller files with more compression. Our High/Balanced/Small presets use CRF 23/28/33, a range that keeps most videos looking clean. Going much smaller starts to introduce visible blockiness, especially in fast motion.
Why is compressing slower here than in an app?
Video Compressor encodes using WebAssembly inside your browser, which is slower than a native desktop app using hardware acceleration. The trade-off is privacy: nothing is ever uploaded, and your video never leaves your device.
Why is my compressed video sometimes larger than the original?
If your source video was already heavily compressed, re-encoding it can occasionally produce a slightly larger file. In that case, try a smaller quality preset or a lower resolution cap for real savings.
All processing happens locally in your browser. Your video is never uploaded to any server.
