Supports PNG, JPG, and WebP up to 50MB
This tool analyzes an image's pixels and groups them into a small set of representative colors using median-cut quantization, the same technique used in classic image color-reduction algorithms. Pick a palette size, copy any swatch's hex code, or use the eyedropper to sample an exact pixel from the photo.
How does the color palette extractor work?
It downsamples your image, reads the pixel colors, and groups similar colors together using median-cut quantization. Each group is averaged into a single representative swatch, then swatches are sorted by how much of the image they cover.
Is there a limit to the image size I can upload?
Images up to 50MB are supported. Very large images are automatically downsampled for analysis, so extraction stays fast regardless of the original resolution.
What is the eyedropper tool for?
Click anywhere on the uploaded image to sample the exact color at that pixel, separate from the automatically extracted palette. You can pick up to 6 colors this way.
Why don't the extracted colors exactly match what I see in the photo?
The palette is built by averaging groups of similar pixels, so subtle shading and gradients get smoothed into a handful of representative swatches rather than every individual shade. Use the eyedropper if you need an exact pixel color instead.
Does uploading an image send it anywhere?
No. Every step — decoding, downsampling, and color analysis — happens locally in your browser. The image is never uploaded or stored.
How do I use the palette in my website or design tool?
Use the export panel to copy the palette as CSS custom properties, a JSON array of hex codes, or a ready-to-paste Tailwind config snippet, then drop it straight into your project.
Your image is processed entirely in your browser using canvas pixel data — it is never uploaded to a server.
