What audio formats are supported?

Does cutting re-compress my MP3?
It depends on the output format you choose. WAV output is created directly from the decoded audio samples, so it's lossless with no extra compression. MP3 output re-encodes the audio once during export, since MP3 is a lossy format — the original decode step is unavoidable but the re-encode only happens one time.
Can I remove a section instead of keeping it?
Yes. Switch to Remove Selection mode and the cutter will join the two pieces on either side of your selection, deleting the part in between.
Why is the WAV file so much bigger than my MP3?
WAV stores uncompressed 16-bit PCM audio, while MP3 compresses the same audio to a fraction of the size by discarding data the human ear barely notices. WAV is larger but guarantees no additional quality loss.
