Why must crop dimensions be even numbers?
Most video codecs, including H.264, store color information at half resolution (a scheme called 4:2:0 chroma subsampling), which only works cleanly when both the width and height are even numbers. An odd dimension can make the encoder fail outright, so the tool automatically rounds your crop size down to the nearest even number before exporting.
What video formats are supported?
You can upload MP4, WebM, or MOV files up to 500MB. The cropped result is always exported as an MP4.
Does cropping re-encode and lose quality?
Yes — cropping changes the pixel dimensions of the video, so the video track has to be re-encoded (the audio track is copied untouched). The tool uses a high-quality encoding setting, so any quality loss is minimal and usually not noticeable.
