The GIF Speed Changer lets you speed up or slow down any animated GIF right in your browser. Pick a preset multiplier or fine-tune with the slider, then compare the original and the result side by side before downloading — nothing is ever uploaded to a server.
Does speeding up a GIF reduce its quality?
No — the tool regenerates an optimized color palette for the new timing (a two-pass palette process), so colors stay sharp regardless of speed. Quality is determined by the palette and resolution, not the speed multiplier.
Can I slow down a GIF instead of speeding it up?
Yes. Choose a multiplier below 1x, like 0.5x for half speed or 0.25x for quarter speed, using the presets or the slider.
Is there a file size limit?
Yes, GIFs up to 50MB are supported. Larger files may take longer to process since everything runs in your browser.
Why doesn't my GIF play as fast as I set it?
GIF frame delays are stored in units of 1/100th of a second, and many browsers and apps treat very short delays (under about 10ms) as if they were roughly 100ms. At extreme speeds, this granularity and viewer clamping can make playback look slower than the multiplier suggests — it's a limitation of the GIF format itself, not this tool.
Will the GIF still loop after I change its speed?
Yes, the output keeps the same infinite looping behavior as the original GIF.
Does speeding up a GIF drop frames?
No frames are removed. Speeding up only changes each frame's display duration (timestamp); slowing down does the same in reverse. All original frames are preserved in the output.
Your GIF is processed entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. It's never uploaded to a server, so your files stay private.
