Frequently Asked Questions
Will the GIF still animate after I add text?
Yes. Every frame of your original GIF is decoded, gets your caption drawn on top, and is re-encoded into a new animated GIF with the same timing, so the full animation plays exactly as before — just with your text added.
Can I add Chinese, Japanese, or Arabic text?
Yes. Text is rendered on an HTML canvas, which supports the full Unicode range, so Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, and other non-Latin scripts display correctly with automatic character-level line wrapping.
Why does my GIF look slightly different after adding text?
GIF only supports 256 colors per frame, so re-encoding always involves a fresh color quantization pass. On most GIFs the difference is barely noticeable, but very colorful or gradient-heavy GIFs can show a small amount of extra banding compared to the original.
How large can my GIF be?
You can upload a GIF up to 30MB with up to 300 frames. Very large or long GIFs may be rejected to keep browser-based decoding and re-encoding fast — try trimming the GIF first if you hit the limit.
Are my GIFs uploaded anywhere?
No. Decoding, drawing your text, and re-encoding all happen locally in your browser using WebAssembly and canvas. Your GIF never leaves your device.
Can I use more than one line of text?
Yes. Press Enter in the caption box for an explicit line break, and any line that's too wide for the GIF automatically wraps to fit — including CJK text with no spaces.
