Every photo from a phone or digital camera carries hidden EXIF metadata — the camera make and model, the exact date and time it was taken, and often the precise GPS coordinates of where you were standing. This tool reads that data so you can see what you're about to share, then strips it completely by re-encoding the image, all without uploading a single byte to a server.
What is EXIF data?
EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata embedded in photos by cameras and phones. It can include the camera make and model, exposure settings, the date and time the photo was taken, and GPS coordinates.
Does this tool upload my photos anywhere?
No. Everything — reading metadata and removing it — happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your photos are never sent to a server.
Which file types are supported?
JPG, PNG, and WebP. Note that PNG and WebP files carry more limited metadata than JPG, since they don't use the EXIF standard as extensively.
What can someone learn from my photo's hidden data?
If GPS data is present, someone can pinpoint the exact location — often your home, workplace, or a child's school — down to a few meters. The camera make/model and timestamp can also reveal what device you own and exactly when a photo was taken.
Will removing metadata reduce my photo quality?
There may be a small, generally unnoticeable quality change from re-encoding, since the image is redrawn onto a canvas and re-compressed. Dimensions and visual content stay identical.
Why do some tools leave my photo sideways after removing metadata?
Phones often store photos in their sensor's native orientation and use an EXIF rotation tag to display them upright. Tools that strip metadata without applying that tag first end up deleting the very instruction that kept the photo upright. We decode each photo with its orientation applied before re-encoding, so your photos never end up sideways.
Your photos are processed entirely in your browser. Nothing is ever uploaded — metadata is read and removed locally on your device.
