PDF Metadata Editor lets you view, edit, and strip the hidden document properties embedded in every PDF — Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator, Producer, and creation/modification timestamps. These fields often carry your real name, employer, or original file dates without you realizing it. Clean them up before sharing a résumé, contract, or report, or clear everything in one click for maximum privacy. Every edit happens locally in your browser — your file is never uploaded to a server.
Is this PDF metadata editor free to use?
Yes. PDF Metadata Editor is completely free, with no sign-up or watermarks. It works with PDFs up to 100MB.
Do you upload my PDF to a server?
No. Every operation — reading, editing, and clearing metadata — runs locally in your browser using the pdf-lib library. Your file never leaves your device.
Which metadata fields can I edit?
You can edit the Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, and Creator fields. The Producer field and creation/modification dates are read-only in the form, but the Clear All Metadata button can strip those too. Saving any edit also removes the file’s embedded XMP metadata stream, even if you only changed one field.
What hidden information can PDF metadata leak?
PDF metadata can quietly reveal the author's real name, the company or software that created the file, the exact date and time it was written or last edited, and sometimes internal file paths — details you may not want to share alongside a résumé, contract, or report.
Does editing metadata change my original file?
No. Your original PDF stays untouched on your device. Saving or clearing metadata generates a new PDF file for you to download, so you always keep the original as a backup.
Does clearing metadata affect the visible content of my PDF?
No. Clear All Metadata only removes hidden document properties like title, author, keywords, producer, and timestamps. Every page, image, and line of text in your PDF stays exactly as it was.
Your PDF is processed entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server — reading, editing, and clearing metadata all happen locally on your device.
