Convert YAML configuration files to JSON, or JSON back to YAML, right in your browser. Supports multi-document YAML and custom indentation.
This free tool converts YAML configuration files into JSON, and JSON back into YAML, entirely in your browser. It handles multi-document YAML files, reports parse errors with exact line and column numbers, and lets you choose your preferred indentation.
What does this tool do?
It converts YAML configuration files into JSON, and can also convert JSON back into YAML — all directly in your browser.
Is there a file size limit?
Input is capped at 2MB of text, which comfortably covers most YAML and JSON files used in day-to-day work.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. All conversion happens locally in your browser using JavaScript — your data is never sent to a server.
What happens to multi-document YAML files?
YAML files that use --- to separate multiple documents are all parsed, and the results are combined into a single JSON array so you don't lose any of the documents. A notice appears telling you how many documents were found.
Can I use this on my phone?
Yes, the tool works on any device with a modern web browser, including smartphones and tablets.
Why did my YAML numbers or booleans change type in JSON?
YAML has native types for numbers, booleans, and null, so a value like true or 42 in your YAML is parsed as a real boolean or number in JSON rather than a string. If you intended a value to stay text, quote it in your YAML, for example "42" or "yes".
All conversion happens locally in your browser. Your YAML and JSON data is never uploaded or stored on any server.
