Frequently asked questions

Why does my iPhone shoot HEIC instead of JPG?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's default since iOS 11 because it stores the same quality at about half the file size. You can switch to JPG in iPhone Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible.

Will the JPG look the same as the original HEIC?

At 90% quality, the converted JPG is visually indistinguishable. HEIC does support slightly wider dynamic range in some HDR shots, which can't fully translate to standard JPG.

Is my iPhone photo uploaded to a server?

Can I convert a Live Photo (HEIC + MOV)?

Yes for the still image component (HEIC). The video portion of a Live Photo (MOV) is a separate file and not handled by the image converter.

Will location and EXIF data be preserved?

Basic EXIF metadata is preserved during conversion. Some HEIC-specific metadata fields that have no JPG equivalent are dropped.
